I’m currently reading a book a client suggested to me: Rich Roll – finding Ultra. It’s obvious immediately to me why he finds it inspirational, but there’s little gems embedded right through this book that create powerful thought provoking questions in your mind. Thanks for the suggestion Ben, this book is well worth reading.
In brief, Rich was a damn good swimmer in his youth but then battled alcoholism and didn’t have an epiphany moment that forced him to change his life till he was almost 40. His problems didn’t end there – as his new found love for ultra put huge pressure on the family finances.
This quote that I recently arrived at jumped out at me today.
What’s the worst thing that can happen? We’re healthy. In love. Living life according to our own rules. And that’s all that matters. Everything else is just stuff.
My husband has said this to me many times in recent times when things have been tough for me. He constantly reminds me that a happy wife is all he wants and that regardless of everything else, we are living our life, the way we want it.
Ok, we aren’t super wealthy, much less so since I stopped teaching, but as I have said before, money does not make the world go round. Happiness does though.
So in the midst of your deepest despair, worst day, greatest stress, remember what you DO have.
I have love, happiness, a beautiful country and I am living life the way I want to.
