Guaranteed success: step OUT of the comfort zone!

IMG_4093.JPG When did we ever get results by repeatedly doing the exact same thing? Sometimes we get stuck in an exercise regime rut, and don’t realise till we begin to wonder why we aren’t seeing any changes.

The changes only need to be small to be effective. Let me explain what I mean. 

This is my exercise face today. I was on the turbo trainer for 45 minutes, which included 15 x 1 minute hard efforts, with 1 minute recovery. I use the Sufferfest, and I have had this video track for many years. But – why then, does it continue to challenge me?

Here’s why. comfort-zoneBecause I measure the RPE (rate of perceived exertion) against how I feel on that exact day. I push myself just out of my comfort zone. I do this each time I complete this workout. 

In this way, the workout never gets any easier. This is because each time, I get a little bit fitter.

dont build wallsThere is only one way to progress, get fitter, get stronger, and that is to push yourself to do just a bit more than you did last time.

In no time at all you will be able to look back at the records (if you keep training notes) and say ‘Wow, look how far I have come!’

Now, go punish yourself!

  1. I love the advice. It’s sooo easy to get stuck a hole with your training, never improving and not really understanding why. But you’ve hit the nail on the head here 😉
