I knew instantly when I saw this daily post, what music I had in mind. Its the same one I wrote about last time this was a daily post challenge.
Do movies, songs, or other forms of artistic expression easily make you cry? Tell us about a recent tear-jerking experience!
It has to be Amazing Grace. Here’s why.
This was one of my Grandad’s favourite songs (my mum’s dad). He used to play the electric organ. He lived in Belfast, so would call me up to play to me, would put the phone down and go off to the organ, leaving me stuck there for ages listening, till he came back!!
He used to play this hymn to me, we chose it as one of the hymns to be sung at his funeral. I always thought of him every time I listened to it.
My mum also loved it for the same reason. She died suddenly of cancer last year, after only a 9 week fight against the awful disease. I knew immediately that I wanted this hymn at her funeral, but I also knew that there was no way that I would be able to sing it, I would be far too upset. So we played this version of it at the Crematorium, as the curtains closed on her coffin.
It will always be a special and very emotional piece of music for me, one that I would also like played at my funeral too.
Oh, this is a beautiful hymn and one of my favorites, as well. I know you miss your grandad and your mum. My heart hurts that she went so fast. I suppose it’s good she didn’t suffer longer but still, wish y’all could have had more time together. *hug*
