So that’s it: I’m now officially a retired triathlete and a retired runner too. It doesn’t seem quite real.
Someone asked me how the knee was before this race. Wonderful actually, since I stopped running was my reply. As I have done all the previous times, I just mooched along at my own wee steady pace, quite quickly catching all those who set off too fast.
As the second lap unfolded, I also got a lead on several run/walkers who couldn’t maintain the pace. I finished without pain, just some twinges afterwards. The run itself didn’t hurt. But the I wasn’t setting the world on fire either.
I’m perfectly happy to hang up my running shoes and do something else, knowing that I achieved everything that I have.
Now, where’s my sculls and my track bike…..?
