Wood burners. That’s a smell I am going to have to get used to. When its a still day you can smell it in the air outside. Ash, lumps of wood, and constant maintenance heat is also something I will need to get used to. I do find it odd that I needed fire starting lessons from locals, one such lesson took place in the staffroom at work one morning!
No two storey houses here in Invercargill, well, they are very rare. No central heating here in New Zealand, and UPVC windows are only just arriving and are stuff of the very rich.
Strange. But, at the same time, I always wanted a proper fire and loved sitting in front of my Nana’s fire when I was little. All wonderful new things to get used to here in New Zealand.
