A very surreal thing happened to me recently.
I write for Sports sister occasionally, and regularly get emails asking for someone to do a specific race and write a report for the Sports sister web site. I was sitting with iPhone in hand when one came through asking was anyone interested in doing Tough Mudder.
I have to be honest, I only vaguely knew what it was, but I knew that my husband had recently resurrected his love for sport and in particular all things muddy, so replied with ‘me, me me’! Then immediately realised I had in fact just volunteered MYSELF for this race. Oops!
How do I feel about that? Terrified, excited, apprehensive, the lot combined! I figure though, as a triathlete, I will have good all round strength to get me through. The 12 miles don’t worry me at all, it’s the seemingly almost impossible obstacles! I’m thinking team work will be key!
The best part? It’s the 18th November, two weeks after I am back from the World Champs, and the day before my knee surgery!! I think slow and steady will also be the name of the game!
I am curious to find out what kind of people do these kind of races, and why women choose to do them, army style obstacle courses conjure up images of men trying to prove their masculinity! I might in fact be completely wrong, we shall see!
Husband is dead excited that I am doing it, and has trotted off to army style PT sessions in preparation.
If you have done some, I would love to hear from you, and if you have done a Tough Mudder, do please give me some tips!
