MILTON KEYNES MARATHON announces 2013 date and a New sponsor

Following an extremely successful inaugural race last April, the second Milton Keynes Marathon will take place on Monday 06 May 2013, and we are excited to announce that the new Headline Sponsor for the event will be Skechers Performance Footwear.

Andrew Hully, Race Director of Milton Keynes Marathon says the event will be bigger and better next year and is hoping to attract a large field including both high achieving athletes and recreational runners. “Milton Keynes is easily reached from the rest of the UK and Europe, we have a great communications network,” says Andrew. “There is plenty of accommodation to suit all budgets and we are able to offer visitors to the area a great race with its own unique attractions.”

With 4,500 acres of woodlands, lakesides, parks and landscaped areas within the city boundary, Milton Keynes is the ideal venue for a Green Marathon. The course is one lap and traffic free on closed roads and cycle paths or “redways” as they are known locally. There are gentle undulations but without any significant incline there is real PB potential for all participants.Runners and spectators will enjoy an electric atmosphere at the finish of the race inside the state of the artStadium MK, and with plenty more entertainment en route this will be a race to remember.Last year’s event attracted thousands of spectators, in spite of adverse weather conditions, and next promises to offer the same support for runners and a great day out for those watching.

In addition to the main Marathon and the Corporate Relay event sponsored by Geoffrey Leaver Solicitors there will be a Fancy Dress Fun Run for friends and family. The Fun Run will be open to all so that everyone can have their chance to walk or run and cross the finish line inside the Stadium.

Also new for the 2013 event are several additional benefits for participants.“Continuing work on the Stadium means that for 2013 we will have access to the whole concourse with all exit and entry gates open,” says the Race Director.“We are also able to offer improved parking and baggage storage facilities for runners.New retail outlets will be open at the north end of the Stadium so there will even be a chance for a spot of shopping after the race”.

Pete Youell, MD for UK & Ireland, SKECHERS, said, “I am extremely excited to be part of such a huge racing event, especially as this is the first time SKECHERS have been involved in sponsoring a Marathon in the UK. We are anticipating the Milton Keynes 2013 Marathon to establish SKECHERS as a Performance footwear brand and look forward to building a great relationship with the team.’’
