Starting 2 August 2012
For a long time, Surrey-based artist and Art teacher Nathaniel Fowles has harboured the ambition and challenge of cycling the length of the UK by himself and completely unsupported. After successfully raising nearly £800 for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research at the Blenheim Triathlon last year, he is finally planning to do the 900 mile solo journey in aid of Cancer research UK starting on August 2. His route will take him from John O’Groats in the north of Scotland to Land’s End in Cornwall via the North West and West Midlands.
Many people he knows have been affected directly or indirectly by cancer, including a recent scare with his own family. Cancer Research UK is the world’s leading charity dedicated to beating cancer through research and is a cause he wholeheartedly supports. His aim is to raise £1500 with the trip itself being completely self-funded and all of the money raised going to the charity. The easiest way of sponsoring him is through his JustGiving page which is quick, easy and totally secure:
As a practicing artist and art teacher, he shall be keeping his Twitter blog up to date with news about his preparation and progress. If you are interested, you can follow him at
www.twitter.com/nathanielfowles. His blog will include his ‘sketch of the day’ project which he has been running since the beginning of the year, where he will be posting images of drawings and artwork documenting his journey.
